A brief history of the Minneapolis & St. Louis mainline from Mason City to Peoria and Albia:

12/03/21

This bridge is a very ornate structure across State Street, in a historic neighborhood of Mason City.
Built in 1903, the bridge features three though girder spans, which are exceptionally decorative for the time period. These spans sit on concrete and steel substructures.
The structure is a simple three span Through Girder, with the center span being larger than the approaches. In addition, the bridge features a ballasted deck.
Overall, the bridge appears to be in fair condition, with little serious deterioration. One area of concern is the foot of the steel towers, which are beginning to deteriorate.

The author has ranked this bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design and decorative features. It is scheduled to eventually become part of the Mason City High Line Trail.
